Year 9 History visits to Clifton Street Graveyard

Calling all budding Steven Spielbergs! Year 9 students are currently producing I Movies to promote a local historical gem – Clifton Street Graveyard. The Graveyard marks the final resting place of a diverse range of Belfast people from all walks of life: United Irishmen, cholera victims, social reformers and millionaires.

The boys were led on a fascinating guided tour of this historical site, visiting the graves of Mary Anne McCracken, her brother Henry Joy McCracken and William Drennan as well as the mass grave for the cholera and famine victims. They also learned about the local entrepreneurs who played a leading role in the development of nineteenth century Belfast and the gruesome practice of body snatching which took place after the graveyard opened.

Now the Year 9s are busy developing their own I-movies to promote Clifton Street Graveyard as a must-see destination on the tourist trail.
