On Sunday 14th of December, St Malachy’s musicians headed to the Oldpark Road for the annual Christmas Concert. This year the event had a very different look; it took the form of 'A Festival of Nine Lessons and Nine Carols' and it certainly did not disappoint! Traditionally held on Christmas Eve, the service (which dates back to 1918) celebrates the birth of Jesus in nine short bible readings interspersed with carols and music.
The packed church was treated to a variety of first-class performances by individuals, music ensembles and both choirs. Particular highlights included: the candle lit procession, the choir’s performances of O Holy Night and Still, Still as well the Woodwind Ensemble’s version of The Carol Fantasia. Guests also enjoyed a solo by rising opera star, Tom Deazley. The festive fun continued in the Parish Hall after the event, with the Jazz Band, Training Orchestra and String Quartet all entertaining revellers as light refreshments were served.
Special thanks to all the boys and staff involved for making this such a wonderful event.
