The College’s Young Enterprise team, NI Recycle, attended the YE NI End of Year celebration event in the prestigious Belfast City Hall on Thursday 14th June. Having won the overall Innovation in IT award for the Belfast area in April they were competing for the Northern Ireland title….and…THEY WON!!
Out of all the companies in Northern Ireland the judges deemed NI Recycle to be the worthy winners. This award recognised the innovative work of the team who programmed a prototype to help with household recycling using photo analytics. Representing the group were Colm Holbeach (Managing Director) and James Hanna (IT Director) accompanied by Catriona Grimes (Centre Lead & Teacher at St Malachy’s College) and Liguori Dobbin (Business Advisor from Bank of Ireland). They received the award from radio DJ Pete Snodden and news broadcaster Sarah Travers at the black tie event. They were also treated to a champagne (and diluting juice) reception followed by a 2 course meal in the Great Hall. This is a fantastic achievement for the pupils who are serious young innovators and business men to look out for in the future. The group wish to thank Liguori Dobbin (Bank of Ireland) and Kelly Moore (Kainos) for their invaluable help as business advisors.
