Our Year 8s attended a one-hour performance and workshop given by the Ulster Orchestra in Girdwood Community Hub yesterday.
What an experience!
For most, this was the first time they had seen or heard a live professional orchestra. The boys, who were on their usual best behaviour, listened to different types of classical and film music and our host, Jonathan Simmance, linked all of the elements boys had been learning about in class (melody, harmony, rhythm etc.) to their mood and how the music made them feel.
It was a privilege for the boys to have experienced such a thrilling performance from our county’s professional orchestra in such an intimate setting. They especially liked the Star Wars theme tune and many of them began conducting the orchestra from their seats! Well done boys, and sincere thanks to the Ulster Orchestra.
