On Tuesday 4th October, our College Orchestra joined forces with Belfast Royal Academy’s Orchestra in a special Shared Education event. The massed orchestra of 110 musicians rehearsed and performed “March to the Scaffold” by Berlioz, which is also a GCSE set work, and they were tutored and conducted by visiting Ulster Orchestra guest artists. There were sectional and tutti rehearsals throughout the day, which concluded with a public performance of the work. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day – they met new friends, developed their orchestral playing technique, worked alongside different people, and developed listening skills – all under the considerable pressure of an impending performance!
Well done to all. We look forward to our next musical Shared Education event.
