Year 10 student Sean McKinney put in a solid performance as Northern Ireland's goalkeeper at the recent Home Nations Powerchair Football Tournament in Newtownards.
This was a major powerchair football event and was streamed live on the EPFA YouTube channel.
Mr McBride and Aidan Kelly (Yr14), N.I. U18s Schools International, made the trip to support Sean and his team mates and witnessed first-hand the passion and excitement of the fastest-growing disability sport in the world.
The tournament was contested by the senior teams from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Republic of Ireland and England. Northern Ireland played excellent football over the two days but ultimately had to settle for 3rd place. This was a great result nonetheless, given the strength and experience of the opposition.
Sean was one of the youngest competitors and played very well in what was only his second major tournament. His performance against European champions and tournament winners England was described by one commentator as " ever - impressive" and "excellent" by another.
Sean's hope now is to maintain his position in the NI team and travel to Australia for next year's Powerchair Football World Cup. His BIG dream is for powerchair football to be included in the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympic Games!
